What are the card values in online baccarat games?

บาคาร่า operates on a fixed card value system applied to every deck in the shoe without exception. Unlike many other card games where values flex based on context, the rules here stay constant across every hand dealt. Getting the counting method right is fundamental to reading any round result correctly. Players who grasp how individual card values combine to form a hand total will approach each result with far greater clarity. The system is simpler than most people initially assume.

Face card zero

Baccarat’s face cards are the most common source of scoring confusion. All kings, queens, jacks, and tens are worth zero. Not low value. Zero. None of them contributes a single point to the hand total whenever they appear during a round. A hand made entirely of face cards scores zero, regardless of which specific cards are drawn or how many appear together in the same deal.

Most card games assign face cards a high numerical value, which makes this particular reversal counterintuitive for many players at first. The assumption that a king outperforms other cards does not carry over into baccarat scoring. Once players set that expectation aside, reading the total of any opening hand becomes considerably more accurate. Zero-value cards appear in a large proportion of all hands dealt, and recognising them immediately on sight is a practical necessity at every stage of a session.

Ace and numbered cards

Cards numbered two through nine each carry their printed face value directly. A three counts as three, a six counts as six, and the pattern continues without exception through the entire numbered range. The number on each card is exactly the number used in the hand calculation, with no adjustment applied at any point. This makes the numbered cards the most predictable and intuitive part of the entire value system.

In online baccarat, the ace holds a fixed value of one in every situation. It does not shift based on hand composition or running total, the way it does in some other card games. Players familiar with blackjack, where the ace counts as either one or eleven, will need to set that habit aside entirely. Here, the ace always contributes one point and nothing more. That fixed assignment removes all ambiguity from every hand in which it appears alongside any combination of face or numbered cards.

How do totals form?

The tens digit is dropped when two cards combine to produce a score above nine.

  • A seven and an eight add up to fifteen, but the score recorded is five.
  • A nine and a six also produce fifteen with the same result.

No exception applies. Every hand dealt in the game is governed by this single-digit rule, including two-card totals and three-card combinations.

The highest achievable score is nine. It is called a natural result when the first two cards dealt total eight or nine. No additional cards are drawn once a natural is declared. A natural nine is the strongest opening hand possible, and a natural eight ranks directly behind it. Both bring the drawing stage to an immediate close without further play required from either side.

Complete value list

Every card in the deck falls into the following scoring categories:

  • total exceeding nine – The tens digit is dropped, leaving only the units digit as the Ace – One point, fixed and unchanged across every hand and round.
  • Two through nine – Exact face value with no modification at any stage.
  • Ten, jack, queen, king – Zero points, contributing nothing to any hand total.
  • Any combined final score.

Card values in baccarat never shift. Every round and every draw follows the same fixed structure throughout.
